Proud To Serve Program

In the heart of Texas, where nearly 2,000 veterans face the harsh reality of homelessness, there stands a beacon of hope and support: Proud to Serve. This program is a testament to our commitment to those who have selflessly served our nation. Proud to Serve has a singular purpose – to combat homelessness among veterans and their families. It recognizes the sacrifices made by these brave individuals and their dedication to our country.

Description: Proud to Serve is a program with the primary purpose of combating homelessness among veterans, particularly in Texas, where nearly 2,000 veterans are experiencing homelessness. This program recognizes the sacrifices made by veterans and aims to provide comprehensive support, enabling them and their families to regain and maintain their independence. We are committed to offering veterans the necessary resources, services, and assistance to secure stable housing, access healthcare, and ultimately achieve self-sufficiency, honoring their service and ensuring they have the support needed to transition from homelessness to stability.

Program Services

Housing Assistance: We work to provide veterans and their families with assistance in securing stable and safe housing. This includes rental assistance programs, housing counseling, and access to emergency shelter services for those in immediate need of housing.

Healthcare Access: Ensures that veterans have access to comprehensive healthcare services. This includes assistance in accessing VA healthcare benefits, mental health support, addiction treatment resources, and referrals to healthcare providers in the community.

Employment Support: We offer veterans job training, employment placement assistance, and access to employment resources. It helps veterans gain and maintain meaningful employment, supporting their financial stability and independence.

Financial Literacy: Provides financial literacy to help veterans and their families manage their finances effectively. This includes budgeting, savings, debt management, and financial planning to promote long-term financial stability.

Family Support: The program extends its support to veterans’ families, recognizing that family stability is crucial to veterans’ well-being. Services may include family counseling, assistance with childcare, and referrals to family support resources in the community.

Goals and Objectives

  • End Veteran Homelessness: The overarching goal is to significantly reduce and ultimately eliminate homelessness among veterans in Texas.
  • Housing Stability: Assist veterans in securing safe and stable housing through rental assistance programs, housing counseling, and emergency shelter services.
  • Access to Healthcare: Ensure veterans and their families have access to comprehensive healthcare services, including mental health support and addiction treatment.
  • Employment and Financial Stability: Provide job training, employment placement assistance, and financial literacy programs to help veterans gain and maintain employment.
  • Family Support: Extend support to veterans’ families to ensure they remain stable and self-sufficient.

Impact

Homelessness Reduction: Track the number of veterans who successfully transitioned from homelessness to stable housing.

Healthcare Access: Measure the increase in veterans accessing healthcare services and improvements in their overall health and well-being.

Employment Success: Monitor the percentage of veterans who secure and maintain employment after participating in job training and placement programs.

Family Stability: Assess the impact on veterans’ families by tracking their ability to maintain independence and stability.

Program Expansion: Evaluate the program’s ability to expand its reach and impact over time, potentially reducing the number of homeless veterans in Texas.

Partnerships

Proud To Serve Program collaborates with a network of key partners across Texas, including local government agencies, veterans’ organizations, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and businesses. Some notable partners include The Texas Veterans Commission, the Texas Workforce Commission, the University of Texas System, and some local veteran support groups.
