Microscopic Root Canal Treatment Dubai

The Process

The process can take from 40 minutes to an hour or more depending on the complexity of the case. We try and finish most Root canals in just one visit! And we try and ensure the root canal treatment remains pain-free with effective local anesthetic techniques.

The cavity is cleaned out and small highly flexible files are used to thoroughly clean and disinfect the root canals before being sealed with a special cement and a silicone like substance that prevents any leakage and future infection.

A crown would usually be necessary after the procedure in case of the back teeth (Molar Root Canal Treatment) as they are usually subject to heavy biting forces.

Why choose New Ivory?

We have the latest German award winning Dental Operating Microscope from  CJ-Optik which helps us to see, diagnose and treat root canals much more effectively and conservatively than with the naked eye! There is no comparison with a traditional root-canal treatment vs one done with a dental operating microscope.

Secondly we also have and use a 3D CBCT Scanner which gives us all the details of the root-canal system so potential pitfalls such a blocked root-canal, curved root-canals etc can be seen early on. Frequently root canal failure is because of missed root canals and that can be eliminated with a CBCT Scan.

Most importantly, we are very well trained to perform root canals with a passion! We can also perform root canal retreatment for failed previously treated root canals because the microscope allows for exquisite detail and precision.

FAQ's

What is a Root Canal Treatment?

A Root Canal is a small passage inside the tooth that has blood vessels and nerves. When a tooth gets infected because of decay or trauma, the nerve inside gets inflamed and possibly infected. A root canal treatment basically is the cleaning of this inflamed tissue inside the root of the tooth. It is later followed by disinfection and sealing of the canal. This is done using small and thin highly flexible files that shape and gently enlarge the canal to remove all the infected tissue. The final step is the placement of a permanent filling or a crown after the root canal treatment is completed.

Which is better - Root canal or extraction?

In general, a Root Canal Treatment is a more conservative option as it helps you to keep the natural tooth. However sometimes the tooth in question may not be worth saving because of extensive decay. Other situations where an extraction might be advisable is when the tooth in question is a wisdom tooth which is not in a proper position or doesn’t have an opposing tooth. Yet another case where a an extraction might be a better option is when the root canal seems to be partially or completely blocked on a painful or symptomatic tooth.

How painful is root canal treatment?

A root canal with correctly administered anesthetic should be usually absolutely painless. Most horror stories heard about root canals are usually due to incorrect or inadequate anesthetic. A mild amount of discomfort is usually present for about 24 hours post root canal treatment which can be very easily controlled with some pain-killers such as bruffen or aspirin.

What is the procedure for a root canal?

First after identification of the tooth in question, the tooth is anesthetized. Then a small hole is made into the tooth to access the diseased nerve tissue. Next the tissue is completely and thoroughly cleaned and removed from the root of the tooth. The root canal is dried and sealed using a sealer. Finally a permanent restoration – either a filling or a crown is placed on top to reinforce and restore the tooth to its original strength and function.

How long does a root canal treatment take to perform?

Depending on the number of canals and the complexity a root canal can take anywhere from twenty minutes to more than an hour. Sometimes in extremely challenging cases it can take two or more sittings.

How long does a root canal treated tooth last?

A Root canal treated tooth is like any other health tooth and can potentially last indefinitely. The crown or filling however might need to be changed depending on wear.

Can I have a hot drink after root canal?

Yes, you should be able to enjoy your cuppa! A root canal treated tooth is usually insensitive to hot or cold.

What should I eat after root canal?

Usually a root canal treated tooth is a bit tender to pressure and biting for about 24 hours. You must try and avoid biting on the tooth for a day or two. If the tooth is a grinder it would usually need a crown as soon as possible.

Can I brush my teeth after root canal?

Yes, it is usually ok to brush after a root canal but check with your dentist first. Sometimes there is a risk of a temporary filling dislodging if brushed too early.

Which is better – Root Canal or Dental Implant?

In most cases we try to be conservative and perform a root canal treatment. However, there might be situations where a root canal might not be predictable enough and an extraction followed by an implant placement might be a better choice. For more details on dental implants, Click here

What are the latest advances in Root Canal Treatment?

A Cone Beam Computed Tomograph or CBCT for short is used to see a 3D Map of the tooth so hidden canals and other anomalies and difficulties are spotted before even starting the RCT. A bit of anesthetic is given to prevent any pain. Access is made using a dental operating microscope for being conservative and preserving the maximum amount of tooth structure. Nickel Titanium rotary files are then used to access and clean the infected tissue rapidly and effectively. Most of the time an RCT can be completed as a single visit root canal treatment. If time permits, the crown can also be delivered in the same visit.
